OMER ben shachar
Omer Ben-Shachar is a queer Los Angeles-based writer-director who enjoys telling honest, character-driven stories centered around the search for identity. His work has been supported by the Academy, BAFTA, Film Independent, AFI, Warners Bros., Paramount, and the Television Academy. Omer’s latest short, ‘Single Residence Occupancy’ (2024) premiered at the 2024 Woodstock Film Festival and was recently named the first place winner of the Imagine Entertainment & Adobe ShortFest. His experimental short, ’Down Here’ (2022) was a Webby Award Winner, named 'Best of Vimeo Staff Picks', and was nominated for a Cannes Lions Young Directors Award. Omer’s AFI Thesis film, ‘Tree #3’ (2019), won a Student Academy Award, Urbanworld’s Best Young Creator Award, Palm Spring’s Audience Award, was nominated for a Student Emmy, and screened at over 100 festivals around the world.
Most recently, Omer was a participant of the 2024 Film Independent Screenwriting Lab with his feature screenplay, ‘Role Play’. He previously participated in Film Independent’s 2023 Project Involve Program, Warner Bros. TV's 2020 Directors’ Workshop, and Paramount’s 2019 Viewfinder Directors Program. Omer is a graduate of the AFI Conservatory, where he received the Richard P. Rogers Spirit of Excellence Award for Directing. Beyond his narrative work, Omer has directed music videos featured on Rolling Stone, Billboard, Directors’ Library, Nowness and at the Hammer Museum's Flux Series. Omer is a member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) as well as a BAFTA Connect Member.
